History




The castle constitutes the most significant element in the image of "the City in the Sea", also denominated as castle of the Pope Luna.
This castle is a strength located in the highest area in the Crag on which the old city of Peñíscola is sustained. The construction began in 1294 to image and likeness of the castles of Earth Santa built by the enigmatic gentlemen templarios and it was concluded in 1307. It reached full importance when it was refuge of XIII Benedicto (the Pope Luna).

9:30h - 13:00h, 15:15h - 18h.
During "Semana Santa", 9:00h - 14:30h, 16:00h - 21:30h.
From 15 Juny to 15 September, 9:30h - 14:30h, 16:30h - 21:30h.
Season rest: 9:00h - 21:30h.
